7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (Mt 7:7–11).
As you all know, we are going through the bible study by Kay Arthur, Priscilla Shirer and Beth Moore called Faithful, Abundant and True. We are learning about how Abundant our God is. He is Sovereign and more than able to meet our needs. I absolutely love the concept of learning to pray expectantly. Because I have put my prayers in a box and I need to look beyond my comfort zone. Our God is able! He is gracious and will give us good gifts. Now, let me remind you, I am not a blab and grab it. He is sovereign. Period. Prayers and desires to be granted will always be according to His purpose and will for my life.
So, what does this mean to me? I believe He will answer all prayers. His purpose is for my good, not harm but for my long time changing of my heart to create in me a life honoring His Son. To make me more Christlike. Am I seeking Him first? Am I seeking His kingdom first? If I have Him first in my life, I will digging into His Word and praying accordingly. I can know Him… more and more each day by studying His Word for me. The more I know, the more I learn, the more I understand His heart for me and can rest in the understanding His way is best.
The process of praying expectantly changes me and allows me to develop a trust in Him that doesn’t happen if I don’t dare pray. Prayer should be a two-way conversation. And it should be done all day long.. it becomes a way of life and in this, He becomes Who I seek first. Prayer changes things.. it changes me.
Praying expectantly does not mean we are expecting God to be our sugar daddy in the sky but it is a matter of believing He is more than able and willing to answer. He will answer my prayers. I can trust He will answer in a manner that will be for my good.. even if that is a ‘no’ answer.
What are you praying for?
