I am on a journey of learning to live simply. In my home, I am desiring to live in such a manner that honors my Father God, first and foremost and I also want to live a simpler, healthy manner. We are learning as a family to have a small urban homestead. We are growing most of our own food. I am learning to can most of it. I make my own laundry and dishwasher soaps..etc
I am venturing out into essential oils and I thought I would share with you what I’m learning.
Today, Â I’d love to introduce you to my favorite 🙂 Lavender Essential Oil. I use it in my laundry soap. It is calming and refreshing. It is used in cleansing and even soothing minor burns and cuts. It is very good with skin irritations. Diffuse it for a calming atmosphere in your home!
The Laundry Soap Recipe I use I received from my sweet bloggy friend, Kim at http://marmeespantry.blogspot.com.
This recipe makes 2 gallons.
You will need
- 1/2 cup armor and hammer powered SOAP ( not baking soda) Â you can purchase this at soapsgonebuy.com
- 1/2 cup borax ( I find mine at walmart and lucky’s grocery store)
- 3/4 cup Dr Bonner’s Liquid Castile soap… I get the lavender-scented one
- lavender essential oil
- 2 gallons HOT water
I use an old laundry soap bottle but you can use a heavy milk jug or two… ( you can cut recipe in half)
ALSO: Anything that you use to make soap with, you cannot use to cook with again so I have a separate pot, utensils that I have marked specifically for soap making 🙂
Add your powdered ingredients in pot. Add enough water to cover the powders and whisk to dissolve. Then slowly add your Dr Bonner’s Castile soap so it doesn’t bubble. Add remaining water and add 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil. Add to your jugs and you have soap for quite some time! I have a large family and we use the laundry EVERY day, all day long 🙂 I get at least three weeks ..usually 3 1/2 weeks worth 🙂 Â It works great with my front loading machine 🙂
