10 An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. 2001 (Pr 31:10).
Ladies, I know, Here I Go Again with Proverbs 31 🙂
I love this passage, as anyone who has followed me on achristianmom (formerly, a countrymom.blogspot.com) knows this about me.. this passage holds a place in my heart. And I am learning more and more as I read it over and over again. So, if you are interested, come on a journey of discovery with me. Let’s see who God has created each and every one of His Daughters to be. Strong, Capable, Blessed and Favored of God.
Proverbs 31:10-31 is a poem, an acrostic poem.. each line starts with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet and the lines cross… It has been said that it is a composite of many women and was written from a mother to a son. As a mother myself, I would hope to have instilled into my son some guidance and wisdom into what to look for into a wife. The best way to have done this is to display what it is to be a Godly woman and a devoted wife myself daily. Â Living and being is always a better example. Although the intended reader being a man, it is still wise for us to dig deep into this passage and glean whatever we can.
A Wise Woman.. what does that mean to you? Intelligence? It can be…but for me, it is someone who has grown in wisdom and.. understanding. I can be learned and still not be wise. If I have no common sense, what good is intelligence or book knowledge? The first verse that we are studying talks of a woman, the translation of the word wife is for woman , asks a question.. ‘who can find” not because it is impossible, see, when we give ourselves to Christ, we become such a jewel. But, when a man finds her, he is destined to have a successful life… one that glorifies the King of Kings..
She is excellent. Other translations read capable, virtuous, noble character. The Hebrew word is ha-yil faculty, strength.  Many of us have thought the Godly woman was called to be weak.. we are called to have a quiet and gentle spirit ( see 1 Peter) but that doesn’t mean we are weak and without strength. We are capable and we are of noble character. Yes, even if we have regrets in our past, our God is one who heals the hurt, binds up the broken-hearted and paid the price for our sins with the highest price Heaven could pay… to call us Daughters.  So, shrug off those past regrets, leave them at the cross and rise up, Woman of Strength! Your worth is far above jewels!
